Distribution to criminal “kits” Credit card fraud is the worst ever

Distribution to criminal "kits" Credit card fraud is the worst ever, how should you be careful?

Unauthorized use of credit cards continues. Last year’s damage was about 43.7 billion yen, a 30% increase from the previous year, the worst ever. With the pandemic, online purchases using credit cards have become even more familiar, and methods of stealing numbers and using them fraudulently have spread. What should we be careful about?

230,000 yen bill that I don’t remember

In April, a 72-year-old man from Kashiwa City, Chiba Prefecture, received an email from Sumitomo Mitsui Card .

”Due to the possibility of unauthorized use, we have partially restricted the use of the card.”

When I checked the details online later, I found 17 unfamiliar withdrawals worth about 230,000 yen. Home appliances costing 5,000 to 30,000 yen were bought, but I didn’t use “d shopping” where I purchased them. The payment was made around 11:00 p.m., when I usually sleep.

Immediately answered that it was not my payment. The card’s compensation was applied and there was no actual damage, but the deadline for application was 60 days. In June, it became clear that the card information had been leaked. The hometown tax website that I used in 2021 was illegally accessed .

”At first, I thought the contact from the credit card company was spam . What should I do if they tell me to be careful?”

According to the Japan Consumer Credit Association, 90% of the 43.7 billion yen in damage caused by fraudulent use last year was due to number theft.
